Use the Question wording in the Answer.

Let's think again of the poor person who has to mark your exam ;-)

You need to make it very obvious where your information is.

Another technique to use to make it easy for them is to ensure that you use the key words from the question in the early part of your answer. This makes it obvious that you are answering the question.

Using the key words also helps guide your thinking while you write.

For example, if the question is:

What are the environmental constraints affecting koalas in near-city areas and what is the effectiveness of programs to improve these?

Koala drawing

The answer needs to include the key words;

  • Environmental constraints
  • Koalas
  • Near-city
  • Effectiveness
  • Programs
  • Improve

This question has 2 sub-questions.

So, one way to start a section of your answer is “The environmental constraints affecting koalas in near-city areas are …………….”

For the section on the program effectiveness you may use wording like “The effectiveness of programs to improve environmental constraints is……..”

By using the key words to start your answer you are making it more obvious that you are answering the actual question being asked.
